Most product tankers today use submersible cargo pumps. That creates more space for money-making cargo, but it means there’s no pump room or internal space for installing a ballast water treatment system.
The system has to be installed topside, in a deckhouse. A deckhouse can be many things. But it should never be just a container. It has to protect the ballast water treatment system and its function. So its quality – from design to production – is vital.
